Statement

Date: June 6, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), a Senior Member of the House Homeland Security Committee released the following statement regarding the death of Al Qaeda leader Abu Yahya al-Libi:

"First, I would like to congratulate President Obama and his Administration on his successful policies regarding Homeland Security and the war on terror. I would also like to thank all of the men and women of the armed forces and intelligence agencies that lent their services to planning the drone attack that killed Al Qaeda leader Abu Yahya al-Libi.

"Al-Libi was the number two leader in Al Queda at the time of his death. His death signifies and reinforces the strength of American intelligence and armed forces.

"Following the death of Osama bin Laden, the family and friends who lost loved ones in the terrorist attacks on September 11 are able to achieve a greater sense of comfort and closure. Now that Al Qaeda's second-in-charge has been killed, and he is no longer able to plot against the American people, today should also give Americans some closure.

"The death of Osama bin Laden was a crowning moment in our Nation's war against terrorism. It sent a clear and significant message to terrorists around the world that the United States will not tolerate terrorism or injustice.

"Al-Libi's death serves as another reminder to Al Qaeda and to all others who wish America harm that our strength is unparallel and our spirit will never be broken. We will never stop our pursuit of justice for those terrorists who seek to do harm to this Nation and its citizens."
