Issue Position: Education Reform

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012
Issues: Education

There is a broad coalition advocating reform of our schools but the effort has stalled in the Senate. Important bills were sometimes not even given a hearing in the Education Committee. We have to change that. We must put our kids ahead of the special interests.

Higher Standards

Our students face a global economy and must be prepared to compete. Our students lose out when expectations are lowered. Instead, let's raise standards and reward performance.

More Accountability

In order to increase performance, we need to ensure our schools have strong accountability systems in place. We need to expect results and hold people accountable for attaining them.

More Choice

We need to help our failing schools with all we can. But when that doesn't work, parents should have options to put their kids in the best educational environment possible.
