National Security Experts Unveil Renewed Threats from Cuba

Statement

Chairman Connie Mack (FL-14) today chaired a Western Hemisphere Subcommittee hearing on the Cuban Regime's global reach and its efforts to undermine U.S. security and economic interests through terrorism, intelligence, and irregular warfare. Mack stated:

"To begin, it's disgusting that the Obama administration has given a visa to Raul Castro's daughter, yet restricts visas to Hondurans who fought for their constitution.

"The Castro regime is supporting terrorism, stealing critical and classified U.S. intelligence, and sharing information with our adversaries and its friends, like Iran, Syria, Venezuela, China, and Russia. Cuba is endangering U.S. national security and our men and women around the world. I will work through the committee to push the envelope on policy positions to understand better, and disrupt, Cuban espionage activities."

At today's hearing, experts on Cuba and counterintelligence confirmed that Cuba is a national security threat and is working with terrorist groups and other State Sponsors of Terrorism to spread U.S. secrets.

Mack added, "The Cuban people deserve to live in freedom. I continue to call on the Cuban regime to release all political prisoners, including Alan Gross, hold free and fair elections, and permit freedom of speech and the press."
