Guinta Votes For Pay Increase For Our Men And Women In Uniform

Location: Washington, DC

Representative Frank Guinta (R, NH-01) voted for passage of H.R. 4310, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 on Friday. It was approved with a bipartisan vote of 299 to 120.

As a part of a bill that authorizes funding for our national defense with increased fiscal responsibility and accountability, it includes an important 1.7% pay increase and extends bonuses and special pay for U.S. military personnel. It also restates the firmly-held sense that prior service to our nation is a pre-payment of healthcare benefits in retirement. As such, it rejects the President's proposal to increase some TRICARE fees and establish new TRICARE fees.

Rep. Guinta made the following statement after the vote:

"I join with my fellow Granite Staters in strongly supporting the thousands of families across our state that have devoted their lives to military service. That's why I am pleased to support a bill that gives a necessary increase in pay for our men and women in uniform and protects the benefits they have earned. New Hampshire military families have sacrificed so much; I'm proud to continue fighting on their behalf for what they deserve.

I urge the Senate to join with the House in acting immediately on this legislation. I also call on both Houses of Congress to ensure that in addition to supporting our active duty military, we continue to extend this same dedication to our military veterans. All of these brave men and women deserve nothing less."
