Today, Congressman Mike Michaud issued the following statement on the reconciliation and sequestration replacement plan put forward by House Republican leaders:
"We must replace sequestration with a balanced approach that includes reduced spending and tax reform. Unfortunately, this bill does not do that. Last year I voted for the Budget Control Act, a bipartisan effort to establish caps for defense and non-defense spending. Today's legislation reverses that compromise by removing limits on defense spending and making even larger cuts to programs that our nation's seniors and children depend on, like Meals on Wheels and children's shelter services. I'm not going to support legislation that does not take a balanced approach to deficit reduction and would deal a severe blow to the well being of thousands of Mainers."
