On Second Anniversary of Obamacare, Barr Urges Chandler to Choose Kentuckians Over Washington

Location: Lexington, KY

Today, two years after President Barack Obama signed into law legislation seizing control over one-sixth of the American economy, Sixth Congressional District candidate Andy Barr challenged U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler to explain his vote against repeal of Obamacare.[1] Specifically, Barr asked Chandler identify how Kentuckians' access to healthcare is not worse for the estimated $12,753 Obamacare will cost each taxpayer over the next ten years:
"Two years ago, against the will of a strong majority of the American people, President Obama signed into law a massive bill that most Members of Congress had not even read," Barr said. "This lack of deliberation shows. Today, despite $525 billion in new job-killing taxes, penalties and fees, $500 billion in cuts to Medicare, and an overall projected cost of over $2 trillion through 2022, Americans have less access to affordable health care.
"The Congressional Budget Office estimates that 20 million American could lose their employer-sponsored health insurance. At a time when many struggle to meet their basic needs, healthcare costs continue to skyrocket; healthcare costs increased an average of $682 per person just last year. Meanwhile, the Association of American Medical Colleges predicts a 150,000 doctor shortage during the next 15 years -- a risk Kentucky's rural counties can ill afford."
"It's far past time for Congressman Chandler to explain to his constituents why he refuses to repeal Obamacare. What good has this monstrosity achieved, for the heavy price it has exacted in terms of jobs killed, debt incurred, and dreams denied? Two years later, where is the improved healthcare Kentuckians were promised?
"I urge Congressman Chandler to stand up to Barack Obama and choose the well-being of Kentuckians over the politics of Washington."
