Issue Position

Carolyn Maloney has always been a proponent of improving our nation's health care system and increasing health insurance coverage to include every American. Carolyn was proud to cast her vote for the historic health care reform measure President Obama signed into law in March -- providing high quality, affordable health care for 2.5 million uninsured New Yorkers. She has worked to increase Federal funding of research on Parkinson's Disease, Cancer Screening, Skin Cancer Prevention, Vaccine Safety and Stem Cell Research. In addition, she has worked to improve the Medicare program, so our senior citizens can get the medical attention they deserve.

Carolyn has worked to improve the nation's health care system over the course of her career. One of her major accomplishments was the introduction and passage of a bill that ensured coverage of annual mammograms for women over 65 on Medicare. Carolyn has always believed that Medicare is an extremely important program that has improved the quality of life for elderly Americans across all walks of life. She has continually fought to support the program despite attempts to subvert it.

Carolyn has been an outspoken advocate in the House for increasing Federal funding of medical research with a focus on Parkinson's Disease, Cancer Screening and Skin Cancer Prevention, Vaccine Safety and Stem Cell Research. She is proud of the fact that the research budget of the National Institutes of Health has more than doubled during her tenure in Congress.

Carolyn has been an outspoken in her call for increased vaccine safety controls. She introduced the Vaccine Safety and Public Confidence Assurance Act of 2007, which works to increase public confidence in vaccines by establishing a variety of review procedures.
