Bring Back the Family Farm
Locally grown food is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. More and more local family farms are unable to make ends meet due to excessive overhead and initial capital investment. This is why I propose a program to encourage the return of the family farm by allowing for federal grants or low interest government loans for the capital investment purchases of farm land, equipment, and livestock, for the purpose of agricultural development of the local family farm. This will decrease the initial burden on the farmers and allow them to become profitable more quickly.
A return to local farming will also drive the cost of food down, because of decreased fuel costs. It will also improve local economies, as more money remains in the local area. This is due to purchases of goods and services which would support agricultural growth, from local grocers to agricultural supply companies, and many other businesses in between.
Join me in improving our local economies through agricultural growth.
