Congressman Rothman Fights Against the Republican Assault on Women's Rights in Committee

Statement

Date: May 17, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Women

Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement:

Yesterday, I was proud to speak out against yet another effort by Republicans to restrict the health care rights of women. The amendment introduced in the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee markup by Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-AL) to deny reproductive health care women detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is callous and unprecedented.

The fact that Republicans feel that it is acceptable to continuously attempt to restrict women's rights in our country is morally wrong and unconstitutional. I will continue to fight against anti-choice policies that put politics before a women's ability to decide her own medical care.
