Berg Announces Major Progress in Preserving C-27J Mission for North Dakota Air National Guard

Congressman Rick Berg was joined today by members of the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Air National Guard Support Group and the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce to discuss his efforts to preserve the North Dakota Air National Guard's C-27J mission. Legislation recently was voted out of the House Armed Services Committee that will preserve the C-27J mission for the North Dakota Air National Guard.

"I know how important the C-27J mission is to North Dakota," stated Berg. "Losing this flight mission would be devastating to not only the Happy Hooligans of the 119th Wing of the Air National Guard, but to the local Fargo economy as well. Yesterday's news that the National Defense Authorization Act prevents the divestment or retirement of the C-27J is a giant step forward in making sure that doesn't happen."

Berg met privately with the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Air National Guard Support Group and the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce to early Friday morning to discuss the recent progress made to preserve the C-27J mission for the North Dakota Air National Guard.

The National Defense Authorization Act, which was reported out of the House Armed Services Committee early yesterday morning, contains provisions to prevent the divestment or retirement of the C-27J program. The legislation could be considered by the full House of Representatives as early as next week.

Berg, who has been vocal in his desire to protect the C-27J and other North Dakota priorities, has been in contact with the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee over the past three weeks to stress to the Chairman the importance of preserving the C-27J program on behalf of the North Dakota Air National Guard.

The North Dakota Air National Guard plays an important role in the local economy. A recent report states that the Army and Air National Guard have a combined economic impact of $70 million on the local Fargo metropolitan area.
