Carnahan Welcomes Alzheimer's Research Grant

Statement

Date: May 15, 2012
Location: Saint Louis, MO

Today, Congressman Russ Carnahan (MO-3) welcomed a grant awarded to Saint Louis University recently by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The $42,000 grant will expand work of a currently funded program to support outreach and education to help healthcare providers better understand Alzheimer's and related dementias. The goal of the program, funded through the Geriatric Education Centers program, is to improve detection and early intervention, as well as improving care for Alzheimer's patients and their families.

"The research facilities at SLU are second-to-none," said Rep. Carnahan. "I am pleased that the Geriatric Education Centers program will continue to receive funding so that more of our caregivers can better serve families in the St. Louis region who have been tragically affected by these terrible diseases. I hope that our nation will continue funding both education and therapeutic research that will someday allow us to not just understand how better to cope with dementia and Alzheimer's, but to end them as diseases."
