Feinstein Announces Confirmation of Judge Jacqueline Nguyen

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today announced the confirmation of U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Nguyen of the Central District of California to serve as a Circuit Judge for the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Jacqueline Nguyen, who was nominated by President Obama on the recommendation of Senator Feinstein, was confirmed by an overwhelming 91-3 vote. Judge Nguyen will be the first Asian-American female United States Circuit Judge in the nation.
"Judge Nguyen is an outstanding jurist with a 10-year track record of success as a trial judge in my state," said Senator Feinstein. "Presiding over thousands of cases, including 75 jury trials and 12 bench trials, she prizes fairness and integrity, and treats all parties fairly and with respect. She will make an outstanding addition to the Ninth Circuit."
Feinstein originally recommended Jacqueline Nguyen to President Obama to serve on the District Court in 2009. Judge Nguyen had served on the Los Angeles Superior Court since 2002, when she was appointed by Governor Gray Davis.
Nguyen began her legal career as a litigation associate with the law firm of Musick, Peeler & Garrett. She then moved to the U.S. Attorney's Office, ultimately serving as Deputy Chief of the General Crimes Section.
Nguyen was born in Dalat, Vietnam during the Vietnam War. At the age of 10, she fled the country with her family. They were placed in a refugee camp in Camp Pendleton. After settling in the Los Angeles area, Nguyen graduated from Occidental College in 1987 and earned a law degree from UCLA in 1991.
Nguyen helped found and was president of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association and was a board member of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles.
"The Ninth Circuit is the busiest federal appellate court in the country. I very much hope the Senate soon takes up the nomination of Paul Watford, an excellent nominee to the Ninth Circuit from California. Mr. Watford is eminently qualified, has strong support on both sides of the aisle, and should be confirmed soon."
