Flores Statement on April Unemployment Report

U.S. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas), a former entrepreneur and job creator, issued the following statement today regarding the April unemployment report released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

"Our nation has spent another month with an unemployment rate above 8 percent, which has now continued for 39 consecutive months. There are still 14.5 percent of work-capable Americans who are either unemployed, underemployed or who have given up looking for work. Families and small businesses are struggling due to the president's failed economic policies. Our economy remains weak and our nation continues to suffer with fewer job opportunities and high gasoline prices. Washington needs to turn back to the American people and 'Main Street' oriented solutions to restore our economy. In addition, the American people still overwhelmingly believe that Obamacare should be repealed and replaced with common sense medical reform.

"High energy costs are also slowing down our economic recovery and job creation that will not reach its potential until the U.S. increases its domestic energy production and decreases is reliance on volatile Middle East oil. Additionally, it is time for the president and Senate Democrats to stop blocking the numerous bipartisan jobs bills that have passed the House. These bills include an all-of-the-above energy plan that will create over a million jobs, help lower gasoline prices and make America more energy secure. Our focus needs to be on removing the barriers to private-sector job growth, bolstering our economy, providing economic security and lowering energy prices."
