House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement as the House passed H.R. 4133 -- the United States-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act of 2012. Chairman Price is a cosponsor of the bill.
"Reaffirming America's relationship with Israel is important in sending a signal to the rest of the world that the United States stands with the people of Israel in the ongoing quest for peace and stability in the Middle East," said Chairman Price. "This means acknowledging Israel's right to defend herself, providing assistance when necessary to do so, and rejecting any attempts by the Palestinians to circumvent negotiations toward a settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The United States will continue to stand with our ally Israel and all those who seek peace and an end to violence in the Middle East."
Congressman Price and 22 other members of the House of Representatives recently sent a letter to President Obama calling for an investigation into leaks reported in the media pertaining to American and Israeli defense planning. The letter can be found here. The president has not yet responded.
"Leaks of sensitive information pertaining to the military capabilities of the United States and Israel undermine our national security and our relationship with our ally," said Chairman Price. "President Obama ought to call for an investigation into these reports immediately. The Israeli people should not have to question this administration's or the American people's support for their security. Trust and cooperation are vital to securing a strong alliance and a future of peace."
