Issue Position

As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over health care issues, it is a privilege to work with my colleagues to establish accessible, affordable and quality health care. The vast nature of our health care system is often overwhelming and I believe that empowering the consumers of health care- each one of us, is fundamental to improving the system.

The enactment of Medicare Part D was an important step in allowing people access to prescription drug coverage that was not available to them before. By giving seniors the ability to choose from a variety of plans, providers were forced to compete for your business and, in doing so, drove down costs.

There are many challenges facing our health care system and challenges facing those who are in need of care. I will continue to work for increased transparency, improved technology, and to protect hospitals and providers as they strive to provide the best possible care to each of us.
