Today, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) met with Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Michael B. Oren. After discussing the relationship between the two nations with Ambassador Oren, Bachmann said:
"Israel is our country's closest ally in the Middle East and we are both committed to continue nurturing the crucial relationship between our two nations. We agree that America should never ask Israel to compromise its own security or the safety of its citizens for the sake of appeasing its neighbors. It is in America's interest to support Israel as the sole democracy in the Middle East.
"I remain proud to stand with Israel. My love for Israel was solidified when, as a teenager, I was privileged to travel there and work in the cotton fields in a kibbutz during the summer of 1974. I saw firsthand that the Israeli people share a deep love for freedom with their American allies.
"It was a pleasure to meet with Ambassador Oren today and my prayers and best wishes go with him as he returns to his great country of Israel."
