Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) issued the following statement following the news that McLaren Health Care finalized its deal with CMS to purchase the Cheboygan Memorial Hospital:

"I am pleased to hear that McLaren Health Care has finalized all of the regulatory and business issues that were contained in the final agreement to complete the purchase of Cheboygan Memorial Hospital. My staff and I have spent the last three months working with government regulatory agencies, and local and state officials, to facilitate the process for the hospital to stay open. My priority has been for the citizens of Cheboygan to have local access to health care. We are happy to hear that emergency and surgical operations will be restored. As a doctor for nearly 30 years, I understand the importance of local access to health care for Cheboygan's citizens and I will continue to offer all possible assistance to the area's residents as this process moves forward."
