Issue Position: Putting government Back into the Hands of the People

Issue Position

In the 21st Century Americans are competing in a global economy. We must rebuild our domestic economy in order to compete in this global economy. We must consider and realize that great solutions come from many different ideas working together.

We must be fair in balancing the budget and increasing revenue. Balancing the budget with cuts only to the middle class, seniors, education, veterans, social security, Medicare & Medi-Cal is not the answer. Raising taxes on the working poor and middle class is not the answer either.

Taxing the 1% wealthiest Americans and large corporations is vital in increasing the country's revenue while creating jobs. Re-appropriating the billions of dollars in subsidies currently going to oil companies and insurance companies to instead fund clean energy, infrastructure, and education will revitalize the economy.

Partisan gridlock in Congress has had devastating effects on our ability to resolve the nation's problems. I have the ability to work with people with differing viewpoints, and I am more than willing to seek Republican support and reasonable compromises for my legislative agenda.

However, for over three years, our President has gone above and beyond in reaching out to Republicans and crossing party lines for bipartisan solutions. His efforts have been rejected, even when the ideas on the table had previously been proposed or supported by Republicans.

If Republicans will not be willing to work together with me and other Democrats in this coming Congressional session on policy that we know are best for our Country, make no mistake, I will not waste my time and taxpayers' money trying to convince them to do so. I will take it to the people and work around the obstructions with fell0w Democrats and the President to achieve what needs to be done and is best for the United States of America.
