Congresswoman Nan Hayworth M.D. (NY-19) Commemorates Holocaust Remembrance Day

Statement

U.S. Congresswoman Nan Hayworth M.D., (NY-19) released the following statement in commemoration of Holocaust Remembrance Day:

"Yesterday, we remembered the six million Jews who were murdered by the Nazi regime in World War II, and we honor the virtuous men and women who defied evil to save innocent lives. I was privileged to join Ruth Blumenstock Mandel, a survivor of the Holocaust, in lighting a memorial candle at the United States Holocaust Museum's National Commemoration of the Days of Remembrance.

"At the same ceremony we heard the story of Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish diplomat who used the power of his position to save 100,000 Hungarian Jews, ultimately at the cost of his own freedom. This year is the centennial of his birth. I am honored to be a lead sponsor of legislation to confer a Congressional Gold Medal on Raoul Wallenberg, which has passed with overwhelming support in the House of Representatives.

"Raoul Wallenberg's courage, to risk his life to spare innocent people from death at the hands of a diabolical State, shows the power of conviction and compassion. One man changed the fate of generations, and his goodness lives on in the million descendants of those he saved."
