Rep. Zoe Lofgren Joins San Jose Vietnamese-American Community Commemorating 37th Black April

Location: San Jose, CA

Today Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose), released the following statement on Black April, commemorating Saigon's capture by the Vietnamese Communists on April 30, 1975, and honoring those who sacrificed for freedom in Vietnam:

"Today I join others around the world in commemorating the 37th anniversary of the fall of Saigon to the communists. It is a time for somber reflection on the past and recognition of the resilience and strength of the Vietnamese-American community today," said Rep. Lofgren. "Black April also serves to remind us that the Vietnamese government continues to oppress its own people, arresting and harassing bloggers and peaceful advocates for democracy. That is why I introduced the FREE Vietnam Act, tying coveted trade preferences for Vietnam to improving human rights for its citizens. With the FREE Vietnam Act, we send a message to the Vietnamese government that these actions are unacceptable and continued human rights violations will not be tolerated."
