Chambliss' Statement on the 2012 Farm Bill

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., former chairman and former ranking member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Nutrition, released the following statement today on the passage of the 2012 Farm Bill out of committee by a vote of 16-4:

"I was not able to support the committee bill due to the severe inequities the bill created between regions and crops. While I support approving a new farm bill this year in advance of the expiration of the current bill, I cannot support the unbalanced policy brought before the committee today that attempts to fit most crops into a one-size-fits-all program. I appreciate the outreach from Chairwoman Stabenow and Ranking Member Roberts, and their willingness to address some of my concerns, but more work must be done to improve the package before bringing the bill to the Senate floor."
