The San Gabriel Valley has six major freeways cutting through its geographical boundaries. And because of the area's tremendous population growth, most of those freeways have reached their capacity and are jammed with commuters during peak hours. In desperation, more and more drivers are jumping off the freeways every day and taking major east-west thoroughfares like Valley Boulevard, which are starting to resemble parking lots during rush hour.

As a Congressmember, Dr. Chu will work to complete long-stalled improvements to our area's freeway infrastructure, including finally upgrading the dangerous and inefficient 10/605 interchange and completing the extension of carpool lanes east along the 10 Freeway.

She will also fight for vital funding to expand the Southland's mass transit system to adequately serve the people of the 32nd District. Dr. Chu believes that in order to truly alleviate the congestion plaguing our freeways, projects like the Foothill Gold Line Extension must be completed not only to Azusa, but all the way to its planned terminus in Montclair and beyond.

Finally, Dr. Chu will also support important goods movement projects through the area such as the Alameda Corridor East. This project will create grade separations, thus allowing traffic to flow smoothly and not be held up by freight train traffic, while more efficiently transporting goods from our ports to the rest of the country.
