Congresswoman Wilson's Statement on Earth Day

Statement

Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) issued the following statement on Earth Day:

"On Sunday, April 22, more than one billion people around the world will be participating in Earth Day 2012. First held in 1970, Earth Day is a day to reflect on our connection to the planet we call home, and to renew our commitment to be good stewards of it. From the Everglades to Biscayne Bay to our world-famous beaches, we are responsible for passing our precious natural wonders onto our children and grandchildren so that they may enjoy them as much as we do. Over the past 42 years, we have made some progress in conservation, but we must rededicate ourselves to combat climate change -- especially given the danger that rising sea levels pose to Florida. I call on everyone to do their part, including recycling, beach cleanups, exploring mass transit options, and investing in clean energy that would both reduce carbon emissions and create jobs. We have only one home -- planet earth -- and if we take better care of it, it will take better care of us."
