Today, Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., was appointed by House Republican leadership to the bicameral, bipartisan conference committee charged with writing a final transportation bill.
"A long-term, fiscally responsible transportation bill is absolutely essential to creating jobs, especially in the construction, transportation and energy sectors which have been hard-hit in this economic downturn. A federal highway bill will make sure Washington prioritizes taxpayer dollars smartly on projects that will create jobs and fix our nation's bridges and roads," stated Capito. "I am honored to have been chosen as a conference committee member. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and on both sides of the Capitol to craft a bill as soon as possible."
"As a Member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Shelley has demonstrated tremendous leadership as we've worked to craft highway legislation in the House. The American people deserve a highway bill that prioritizes taxpayer dollars on high-priority infrastructure projects, eliminates wasteful, duplicative spending and creates American jobs. I am confident Shelley will work hard to achieve these goals," stated Speaker Boehner.
"Shelley is a hard-working and experienced member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and I am pleased she will be able to contribute her expertise on transportation issues during this important conference process," stated John L. Mica, Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
Capito is a Senior Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
