U.S. Congressman Sean Duffy (WI-07) released the following statement today after the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) made modifications to a rule pertaining to the acceptable retirement age of public safety employees:
"I applaud today's announcement by the IRS clarifying the retirement rules for our dedicated and courageous public safety officers. This is a critical issue for our first responders. Having been a District Attorney for nearly 10 years, I am uniquely familiar with the burdens placed on our police officers, firefighters and emergency responders. I have worked on this issue for numerous months, most recently voicing my concerns with Treasury Secretary Geithner through letters in March and April and I'm certainly glad to see this finally reach an amicable resolution. Without a doubt, our public safety workers make a commitment to us every day of their lives, working tirelessly to protect our communities and ensure our wellbeing. In return, we must ensure the retirement commitments we've made to these dedicated and heroic individuals are not ignored."
