Heller Responds to Nevada Unemployment Numbers

Statement

U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) issued the following statement regarding the Nevada unemployment figures released earlier today:

"Families across the Silver State continue struggling just to get by and are desperate for solutions. Nevada has led the country in unemployment for the last 30 months, and it is past time for Washington to stop obstructing economic success. Congress has ignored rising gas prices, has not passed a budget in more than three years, and the President's oppressive healthcare law is stifling growth for small businesses across the country. Unfortunately, Washington is more focused on campaign press releases than solving our nation's most pressing problems. No State has been hit harder than Nevada, which is why my top priority has been and will continue to be getting Nevadans back to work," said Senator Dean Heller.

In March, Nevada's unemployment rate declined from 12.3 percent to 12 percent. The decline is partially attributed to Nevadan's who have given up looking for work. The unemployment rate in Las Vegas decreased to 12.1 percent. The rate in the Reno-Sparks areas dropped to 12 percent. Carson City's unemployment rate decreased to 12.4 percent. Elko's unemployment rate increased from 6.6 percent to 6.7 percent.
