Meeting the Needs of Colorado Farmers, United States Food Security

Location: Unknown

I met with representatives and officers of statewide grain producers in Cheyenne Wells to discuss crop insurance, surpluses, food safety and other concerns critically important to rural Colorado. Kent Peppler, the president of the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, said that providing a basic safety net for farmers and the timely passage of a Farm Bill were not partisan issues, but legislative determinations vital to the food security of our nation and the health and stability of American agriculture as an industry. I agree wholeheartedly -- as an old friend once told me, "Mark, if you eat, you're in agriculture." I will take their concerns back to Congress and work hard to ensure the continued health of Colorado's agricultural sector.
