Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) issued the following statement on the eve of the anniversary of the Bay of Pigs invasion in Cuba.
"As we commemorate another sad anniversary of the Bay of Pigs invasion, it is important for us to remember the young fallen heroes who gave their lives on that desolate stretch of beach more than 50 years ago. They preferred dying than living in their beloved homeland under the oppressive communist system of the Castro brothers.
Today's heroes in Cuba such as the Ladies in White, Jose Luis Garcia Perez "Antunez', Sara Marta Fonseca, Jose Daniel Ferrer Garcia and Andres Carrion, the brave man who shouted "down with communism' at the Papal mass, deserve our moral support more than ever. Just today, news reports indicate that Mr. Carrion was re-arrested by the Castro thugs and he is surely facing more beatings, torture and a total lack of respect for his most basic human rights.
On the eve of this tragic day in our Cuban history, I ask all freedom loving nations to not turn a blind eye to the daily struggles of the Cuban people against the tyrannical Castro regime that wantonly represses them. The death of the young brigadistas will not be in vain and we are responsible for assuring that this is so."
