McCaskill: Ameren Application is "Tremendous Opportunity for Missouri Jobs'

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today released the following statement in response to an announcement from Ameren Missouri and Westinghouse on their application to design and build a modular nuclear unit for export in Missouri:

"This move is a tremendous opportunity for Missouri jobs, and it's all the more promising that stakeholders from all corners are supporting the effort. In addition to the potential for good-paying jobs, a program like this could put our state on the front lines for developing state-of-the-art technology to be exported across the globe, and would mean expanded technical training and nuclear expertise at our Universities. I strongly support this application, and look forward to working with folks on the ground to make this idea a reality."

Representatives from Ameren and Westinghouse have said that Missouri was selected for this project based on "strong support from key state and federal policymakers"-including McCaskill-and an "unprecedented alliance of electric energy providers."

McCaskill also said that such a nuclear program would strengthen Missouri's energy security and benefit Missouri ratepayers.

McCaskill strongly supports domestic energy production-including construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
