Senator Webb Statement on "Buffett Rule" Vote

Statement

Date: April 16, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) issued the following statement regarding his vote to proceed to consideration of the Paying a Fair Share Act (S. 2230):

"I have repeatedly warned against the drift toward greater income inequality in our country due in large measure to tax reductions on capital gains and dividends. While the Paying a Fair Share Act represents a step forward, I believe that a fairer and more equitable approach would be to simply increase the tax rate on capital gains. Had sufficient votes supported debate on the Paying a Fair Share Act, I would have offered an amendment to this effect."
