Ron Barber Applauds Plan to Restore Healthcare for 22,000 Children in Arizona

Press Release

Location: Tucson, AZ

Yesterday, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) approved a plan that would provide more than $400 million in local and federal funds, reopening enrollment in KidsCare, Arizona's Medicaid program for children.

While serving as District Director for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Ron worked closely with Arizona hospitals and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to ensure that local, private funding from hospitals that had been provided to offset state cuts KidsCare would be matched by CMS. These private and public dollars together will now make healthcare available to low-income children who would otherwise not have been allowed to enroll in KidsCare.

"Making sure that all of our children have the opportunity to be healthy shouldn't be a political issue," Barber said. "This is exactly the type of public-private partnership we need more of--and I commend Arizona hospitals and CMS for providing the funds necessary to make sure our children have access to the healthcare they need."
