Sen. Toomey Extremely Disappointed With Lack of Democratic Budget

Statement

Date: April 18, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) expressed disappointment that chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), has reversed his earlier commitment to mark up a budget in the Senate Budget Committee. In addition, Sen. Conrad has also prohibited an open debate with amendments and the introduction of alternative budgets.

"I am extremely disappointed Chairman Conrad, at the last minute, has reversed his earlier commitment to mark up and hold a vote on a budget in committee," Sen. Toomey said. "It is shocking that the majority party in control of the Senate refuses - for the third consecutive year - to follow the statute that obligates them to produce a budget. The American people are fed up with these kinds of political gimmicks. They want a serious and substantive budget that puts our country on a path to balance. Is that too much to ask?

"Tomorrow, I will unveil my own budget for fiscal year 2013 that lays out a clear vision for the future of our country. My budget will balance in eight years and calls for job-creating tax reform."
