Gov. Nixon Approves Improvement Plan for I-44 Interchange Near New Mercy Hospital in Joplin

Press Release

Location: Jefferson City, MO

Gov. Jay Nixon has approved an amendment to the Transportation Improvement Plan of the Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization (JATSO) to improve the interchange on Interstate 44 at Routes 43 and 86. This interchange is near the construction of the new Mercy hospital campus. The new hospital is replacing the facility destroyed in the deadly May 22, 2011, tornado.

"I'm pleased to support this important infrastructure project in Joplin that will help create jobs and provide a foundation for the long-term recovery and success of the city," Gov. Nixon said. "The State of Missouri continues to stand with the people of Joplin as we approach the one-year anniversary of that tragic evening in May."

This interchange project will be funded by private dollars.
