Marino Votes for Budget Plan

Statement

This is Rep. Tom Marino's statement on today's passage of Fiscal Year 2013 budget resolution. The budget framework, proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc, cuts government spending from its current elevated level of 24 percent of the economy to 20 percent by 2015. The House passed the measure by a 228-191 vote.

"I was sent to Washington by the people of the 10th District to cut spending, downsize Washington, and keep taxes low.The budget blueprint I supported today keeps that promise and boldly confronts the challenges we face.

"We are all in this together. A more stable and secure future for America depends on the accountability and fiscal discipline demanded by this budget.

"The budget I supported today shows how serious House Republicans are about cutting the deficit. It also demonstrates our efforts to save Medicare from bankruptcy and preserve it for future generations.

"Many opponents of this budget have focused on scare tactics and over-the-top rhetoric. Unfortunately, neither President Obama nor the Democrat majority in the Senate has put forward a serious plan. The president's budget failed to win a single vote in the House and today marks the 1,065th day since the Senate passed a budget.

"Washington is broken. We did not get into this overnight and it will take time to get us out. The hard-working families I represent have tightened their belts and they know it is time for Washington to do the same.

"The simple truth is that this budget confronts the challenges we face and offers better solutions that will lead to greater opportunity for all Americans."
