Issues: Marriage

I believe men and women were intentionally designed very differently and each is important in the raising of children. To the extent that lawmakers destroy marriage, they place more responsibility on a government that cannot afford anything more.

I believe government is most effective when it is local. The family is the most local form of government. When a person is in need, the family should be the first line of support. Any law that breaks down the family structure places more responsibility on government. For this reason, the family must be of concern to lawmakers. Lawmakers in Washington D.C. can spend other people's money, but only a family can ensure children are raised appropriately to be productive contributors to society.

I believe that a man should marry a woman and that a woman should marry a man. The institution of marriage should be protected by law. I would support a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman.
