Issue Position: Federal Debt and Budget Deficit

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

The government should maintain a sound fiscal policy that generates a surplus during normal economic times that can then be used during difficult economic times. Currently, the federal government engages in unsustainable spending that is dangerous for our future, even in these trying economic times. The government has encroached into to many aspects of the citizens' lives with financial commitments contrary to a sound budget.

Many of the expenditures of the federal government are best left to the states, counties, cities and private agencies. Shrinking the size of the government will increase economic productivity by unburdening businesses and citizens and by releasing skilled professionals into the private sector where they can contribute to economic growth.
