Guinta Statement on IPAB Repeal Vote

Location: Washington, DC

The U.S. House of Representatives voted today to repeal an important element of the new healthcare reform law. Representative Frank Guinta (R, NH-01) voted with the bipartisan majority to pass H.R. 5, the Protecting Access to Healthcare (PATH) Act. It would eliminate the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) from the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010.

Rep. Guinta issued the following statement:

"This bill removes one of the healthcare reform law's most troubling provisions. IPAB is tasked with reducing medical costs, and it would do that by restricting healthcare access for seniors. Granite State seniors deserve better than a 15 member panel of unelected bureaucrats intruding into their relationship with their doctor. They shouldn't have to cut through red tape just to get the medical care they need. Hardworking Granite Staters who have paid into Medicare for decades have the right to receive the healthcare they've counted on. IPAB would greatly restrict that, and that's why IPAB has to go."
