Jaime Herrera Beutler Introduces Resolution to Promote Hydropower Energy

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Last Thursday, Jaime Herrera Beutler, co-founder of the U.S. House Energy Action Team (HEAT initiative), introduced a bipartisan resolution urging Congress to recognize hydroelectric power as a source of clean, renewable energy.

Jaime's resolution to promote hydroelectric power is cosponsored by Democrat and Republican Representatives from across Washington state including Reps. Norm Dicks (D-WA), Doc Hastings (R-WA), Rick Larsen (D-WA) and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA).

The resolution reads:

"Resolved, That it is the sense of the House of Representatives that hydroelectric power is the most abundant source of clean, renewable energy in the United Sates and should be fully utilized in the Nation's pursuit of energy independence and affordable energy for all people of the United States."

"Rising energy prices are a drain on our economy. They increase business costs and make everything we do more expensive," said Rob Bernardi, Chair, Clark County High Technology and Community Council. "Hydropower is currently the largest source of renewable electricity in the United States and we are very fortunate to have an abundance of it in Southwest Washington. Hydropower is the poster child for clean, renewable and affordable energy. I am very pleased to see bipartisan support of this resolution that recognizes this fact, and the importance it has on keeping Southwest Washington businesses competitive."

"Hydropower is one of the most valuable assets to Washington state's economy," said Jaime. "Countless job-creating businesses have come to Southwest Washington and stayed here because of the predictable, affordable supply of energy generated by hydropower. I'll continue to work on behalf of those businesses, and all the ratepayers who want to keep their monthly utility bills reasonable as they survive in this tough economy. Hydropower is clean, renewable, and affordable and it must be a centerpiece of our energy policy as we plan for the future."
