Serving You, Your Families, and the Cause of Women's Health and Wellness in Congress

Statement

Date: March 16, 2012

Dear Friend:

As a daughter, a mother, and a wife, I know how challenging it is to balance family, career, and community life. As the only female physician in Congress and a member of the Congressional Doctors' Caucus, I have a unique opportunity to share a woman's perspective on health care. As your Representative, I've worked on local and national initiatives to promote women's health and well-being. The "Go Red for Women" luncheon I attended in Poughkeepsie in March proved how dedicated we are in the Hudson Valley to helping each other live healthier and longer. That's why I've advocated for continued funding for the National Institutes of Health, the nation's preeminent medical research center. I'm cosponsoring legislation to issue up to 500,000 specially themed one-dollar coins for the March of Dimes to fund research, education, and services to improve women's health. The Department of Health and Human Services praised my commitment to ensuring women's access to health care by expanding eligibility for OB/GYNs to obtain loan assistance from the National Health Service Corps.

I'm cosponsoring legislation to establish a commission to coordinate collaboration and investment in breast cancer research, as well as legislation to lengthen time for the Postal Service to issue a charity stamp to raise funds for this important research. And, to foster greater awareness and more effective treatment of eating disorders, I recently co-founded the National Eating Disorders Awareness Caucus, together with fellow Hudson Valley Congresswoman Nita Lowey (NY-18).

It is an honor to serve you, your families, and the cause of women's health and wellness in Congress. For more information, you can visit www.hayworth.house.gov or call (845) 206-4600.

Sincerely,

Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, M.D.

Member of Congress
