Kerry Supports New GHG Pollution Protections

Statement

Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) today applauded the Environmental Protection Agency for proposing limits on carbon pollution for new power plants, a major step to curb greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.

"This is a protection that provides the flexibility to reduce pollution responsibly and move us to cleaner, more efficient, and cost-effective power plants," said Sen. Kerry. "It gives power companies the ability to build on what they've already been doing to improve technologies without hurting their bottom line. Most importantly, it will improve public health and help deal with climate change at a time when Congress is handcuffed by extreme agendas and head in the sand denial."

Senator Kerry, a long-time advocate of energy independence, was the lead author of the Senate's bipartisan American Power Act, legislation to combat global climate change.
