Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) released the following statement regarding the Interior Department's announced plans to allow seismic studies for possible future drilling lease sales off Virginia and the Atlantic Coast:
"Developing Virginia's offshore energy resources will both create high-quality private sector jobs and help reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Despite President Obama's claims of an "all-of-the-above' energy approach, his policies have halted new energy exploration off the coast of Virginia. While today's announcement finally signals a step in the right direction, the Obama Administration previously delayed and then cancelled Virginia's Lease Sale 220. Meanwhile, the House has passed legislation that would allow us to move forward with deep ocean exploration and development and give Virginia a fair share of the revenues. Given the broad, bipartisan support among Virginians I will continue to work to ensure Virginia's energy resources are developed in a safe and responsible way that are equitable for the Commonwealth."
