SENATOR GREGG OFFERS REACTION TO
STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) today commented on President Bush's State of the Union speech made tonight.

Senator Gregg stated, "President Bush is extremely focused on the breadth of issues facing our nation, especially the war on terror and re-energizing our economy, and tonight he made it clear that he intends to squarely address these issues with real, substantive ideas and initiatives. He gave an excellent State of the Union speech tonight and spoke directly to the American people on issues ranging from the situation in Iraq to the need for getting the economy moving faster.

"Clearly the situation in Iraq is the dominant issue on many people's minds. Beyond Iraq, however, the President also addressed questions involving the economy, and how we can get it moving faster, as well as health care and education. He went back to the themes that have always been so much a part of his personality and the tone he has tried to set as President- calling America back to its traditional roots of recognizing a higher calling of neighborliness and commitment to the values of hard work and caring for those who are in need and being an inclusive nation. These characteristics are all very much a part of his fabric as a person, and that was evident in his speech tonight.

"It's always a unique experience to be present in the actual Chamber where the speech is made. It's a tremendous honor and I appreciate the fact that citizens of New Hampshire allow me to represent them down in Washington."
