Vitter Sets up Meeting with Veteran Affairs to Urge Continued Progress of Acadiana Clinic

U.S. Sen. David Vitter today announced that he'll be meeting with officials from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on Tuesday, March 20, to urge reconsideration of their decision to start over on the process of opening the VA clinic in Acadiana because of a technical error. Vitter has also invited Sen. Mary Landrieu, Rep. Charles Boustany and Rep. Jeff Landry to the meeting.

"The VA made a bureaucratic error while reviewing the Solicitations for Offers and it would be downright wrong to allow our veterans in the area to wait even longer to get a top-notch facility in Acadiana up and running," Vitter said. "Our meeting should help make sure the error gets resolved and the progress we've made on the clinic can continue."

Recently the VA said that the Solicitations for Offers for the VA clinics in Lafayette and Lake Charles had been canceled. Vitter contended that progress on the clinic should not be stopped simply because of technical errors, and that the VA needed to reconsider its decision to restart the entire process. During a phone call that Vitter had with the VA this week, they agreed to meet and discuss moving forward with the project.
