Congressman Joe Baca (D-Rialto) has received a 90% score from the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund in its recently released evaluation of Congress. The Defenders of Wildlife, a grassroots organization committed to educating the public about conservation issues, compiled a legislative scorecard evaluating Senators and Members of the House of Representatives on issues related to safeguarding wildlife and promoting strong conservation laws.

Based on his votes on priority issues identified by the Defenders of Wildlife, Rep. Baca received the 90% score, reflecting his ongoing commitment to conservation in America.

"I take pride in representing a unique and diverse ecosystem in California's Inland Empire," said Rep. Baca. "Sound conservation policies not only promote American security through better use of our natural resources, but they also ensure the vast beauty of our nation is safeguarded for future generations to enjoy. I appreciate being recognized by the Defenders of Wildlife for my work to protect wildlife and advocate on behalf of strong conservation laws."

The Defenders of Wildlife scorecard is based on votes taken on key conservation issues in the first session of the 112th Congress (2011), and includes measures on important issues such as protecting funding for international climate science research, preventing mountaintop mining projects to destroy streams, and restoring full funding for federal lands and wildlife protection programs. On 90% of votes scored by the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund in 2011, Rep. Baca voted in favor of conservation and environmental justice.

"I am proud of this recognition, and will continue to address the issues that are important to families in the Inland Empire and across our great nation -- including ensuring safe, clean drinking water for everyone and promoting cleaner, more efficient uses of America's natural resources," concluded Rep. Baca.
