McCaskill Votes to Pass Bipartisan Highway Jobs Bill

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today released the following statement after voting to pass a bipartisan highway jobs bill that will infuse hundreds of millions of dollars into Missouri transportation projects over the next two years:

"It's refreshing to finally see folks on both sides of the aisle come together to pass a much-needed jobs bill. Now, I call on the U.S. House of Representatives to quickly vote on this bipartisan plan. We've had enough delay, and Missouri needs these jobs just as much as America needs this investment in roads and bridges."

The Senate passed the highway funding bill on a vote of 74-22. The bill enjoys the support of business and labor groups, including the Chamber of Commerce, the American Equipment Manufacturers, and the Associated General Contractors of America, among others.

McCaskill had filed an amendment to the highway bill that would strip funds for large-scale construction projects in Afghanistan and redirect those resources for use in the construction of roads and bridges in America. The Senate did not vote on McCaskill's amendment as part of the highway bill, but she pledged to continue her effort.
