Sessions Calls for Open, Accountable Process on Highway Bill

Statement

Date: March 6, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Infrastructure

U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) made the following statement today after voting not to shut off debate on S. 1813, the highway bill:

"Majority Leader Reid and the Senate's Democrat leadership has once again blocked an open, public process on a crucial legislative task. They are refusing to allow needed amendments on the highway bill--including the RESTORE Act that is so important to our state--and I therefore opposed cloture in an effort to bring accountability to this important legislative work as the Budget Committee's ranking member.

Infrastructure and defense are crucial and legitimate functions of government that I will prioritize for our state and country as we strive to make needed reductions in federal spending to prevent a painful debt crisis."
