Gerlach Earns Spot on National Trade Advisory Committee

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jim Gerlach (PA-6th District) announced Friday that he has been appointed to serve on the President's Export Council, which works on expanding opportunities for American products to be sold internationally and advises the president on trade-related issues.

House Speaker John Boehner appointed Gerlach to the national panel.

"Congressman Gerlach has worked on pro-growth trade policies as a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means and understands that increasing American exports means more jobs for American workers," Speaker Boehner said. "I'm confident that Mr. Gerlach's passion for helping American workers and businesses benefit from international trade and fuel economic growth in our country will allow him to make positive contributions to the Council."

Gerlach thanked Speaker Boehner for providing the opportunity to serve on the panel.

"The extraordinarily talented workers, innovative companies and small business owners here in the 6th District make some of the best products in the world," Gerlach said. "I look forward to making sure those products made right here in the 6th District, our Commonwealth and all across America can be sold in every corner of the world. It will also be important to work on the right policies that ensure all of America's trading partners play by the same rules and give American workers a fighting chance to compete in the international marketplace."

The President's Export Council advises the president of policies and programs that affect U.S. trade performance, promotes export expansion and provides a forum for discussing and resolving trade-related problems among the business, industrial, agricultural, labor and government sectors.

Five U.S. senators, five Congressmen and 28 private-sector leaders, the secretaries of commerce, agriculture, energy, homeland security, labor, state and treasury, and the chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the U.S., the U.S. trade representative and the administrator of the Small Business Administration serve on the council.
