Congressman Rooney believes a comprehensive to increase America's energy independence is critical to our national and economic security. He supports an "all of the above" policy that incentivizes growth and development of both traditional and alternative energy sources.

Congressman Rooney's jobs bill expands American energy production, which would create jobs right away while reducing prices for families and businesses. He recognizes that America has tremendous energy resources, and if we utilize them, we'll see new jobs immediately in the energy sector. Producing American energy would drive down energy costs, helping both families and small businesses make ends meet. Specifically, his plan would open ANWR, the Outer Continental Shelf, and oil shale for production. It repeals a ban on allowing federal agencies to purchase "coal to liquid" fuels and expedites the permitting of new and expanded nuclear power facilities.

Congressman Rooney strongly opposed the President's political decision to block the Keystone XL Pipeline, which would have allowed America to import more oil from Canada while creating thousands of good jobs here at home. In a letter to the President, Rooney urged him to consider the national security consequences and reconsider his decision. Rooney recognizes that purchasing oil from an ally, Canada, is far preferable to purchasing it from countries that wish us harm, like Venezuela. By passing on this energy source, the President may give China a significant energy advantage by allowing them to utilize the resources instead.

Tom firmly believes we have a responsibility to our children to take control of our energy future and work for real solutions. We can do this by expanding our domestic production of oil and natural gas while developing new alternative sources of energy and promoting greater efficiencies in consumption.
