Speaker Boehner Urges President to Make Good on White House Discussions, Call for Senate Action on Bipartisan Energy & Jobs Bills

At a weekly press conference with Republican leaders today, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) previewed this week's House action on "all-of-the-above' energy legislation to address rising gas prices and the JOBS Act, a package of bipartisan proposals introduced by Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) that will remove government barriers to small business growth. The Speaker expressed hope that the president today will build on the positive discussion that took place at the White House last week by publicly calling for legislative action by the Democratic-controlled Senate on bipartisan energy and jobs bills passed by the Republican-led House. Following are video and text of Speaker Boehner's remarks:

"Families & small businesses are hurting from skyrocketing gas prices. Today, the House will vote on another bill as part of our "all-of-the-above' energy strategy, this one dealing with hydroelectric generation of energy.

"Our committees are continuing to look at the Obama administration's policies with regard to energy, because those policies continue to get in the way of producing more energy in our country and driving up prices.

"And later on this week, we'll vote on the JOBS Act, which will help jumpstart new small business job creation.

"You know, last week at the White House we were able to find some common ground with the president on these two issues. So today, at the president's press conference, I hope that he'll push Senate Democrats to work on the bipartisan energy bills that we've sent over to the Senate. And also take up the JOBS Act when it gets there later on this week."
