Berg HIRES Act Provisions Signed into Law

Press Release

Date: Feb. 23, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Rick Berg today announced that provisions based on the HIRES Act, Berg's proposal to provide states with more flexibility in the use of unemployment funds, were signed into law.

The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012, which included Berg's Helping Innovation of Re-Employment Services in States (HIRES) provisions, was passed by the House and Senate last week with strong bipartisan support and signed into law by President Barack Obama last night.

"With thousands of Americans still struggling to find work, it's clear that Washington's one-size-fits-all approach to addressing our nation's unemployment needs hasn't worked," Berg stated. "The HIRES provisions will empower states to address their unique needs and adopt innovative reemployment solutions that will best help their residents get back to work. With the nation's lowest unemployment rate, North Dakota has seen success through implementing individualized reemployment strategies. The HIRES provisions will enable other states to embrace North Dakota's common sense way of doing things and help the long-term unemployed get back to work."
